Task 6
MID MEMPHIS

Welcome to Task 6 of Builders Corp. 3.
This week we are splitting the competition. We have 2 stylistic approaches to decorating that you have to use to prompt an interior build. Please note, your interior build does not have to be a living space.
Please see below which prompt you will be using.

Good luck!

Each builder will only construct 1 room design using their given prompt. You will not be doing both. Please do your research on your given prompt.
Powerful week, this was a very experimental task and we're glad you all had fun with it. Every single one of your builds holds up as being worthy of this competition. Just know the ones that ranked lower only had minor things wrong with them that we were able to point out. You're all great at what you do.
Happy reading, please see the progress page for your individual ranking.
Good luck.

You really do underestimate yourself. This room is glorious. It perfectly captures the essence of the movement we requested and more. The palette is gorgeous, the moodlight is very fitting the overall feel is pleasing to the eye. You can actually see all the subtle work that went on every detail, even if they show on 4 pixels or less. Keep up the inspirational work.

You really did your research this week. This design is visually compelling and shows your attention to detail and creativity. You definitely captured the memphis group art style. I'm enthralled with your placement of furniture. You created an inviting space that eludes to a greater story. Almost as if it's a back room to an arcade. Your ability to place 'like' furniture in one area and visualize how you're going to use them in your design is exquisite. I love how the pastels work with the moodlight to create a unique environment. Overall this is fantastic work and I really believe you're on the road to success in this competition. Don't doubt yourself.

Babycakes
A very rustic take on the task. It doesn't particularly read 70s but overall it is an ok room. Saying that, at this point in the competition we do need the extra oomph for you to really shine. Apart from the use of stars as fairy lights I don't really experience that anywhere else. It is a gorgeous room, just not special enough to make it through unfortunately.

Your adeptness in this task is not overlooked. There are qualities to the room that speak directly to your building style and I admire that. The mixed woods work well with one another, setting the scene and ultimately relating to the task. The elaborate combination of furniture to create innovative elements in this room are appropriate. The burners on the cook top, the light instillation in the wall. Nicely done. Where you faulted was in the construction of the room. Although the elements are nicely spread out, the architecture of the room lacked the depth that I was looking for at this stage in the competition.

Gods, what a gorgeous palette. I'm in love with the citrus. True to your personal brand of aesthetic this room goes beyond that. Memphis movement was perfect for you. That being said I do wish we saw some play on layout of the walls. Maybe give us some unique shapes, something to break the monotony of a cube. I want that lamp inside the jar irl please! Where can I order one?

Iridescent, vibrant, and unorthodox. Your stacked elements are beautifully done. I love the simplistic yet convoluted approach to this task. The wall structure to hold the trinkets holds a lot of grandeur; seems so unnecessary for what little you have on it. However, it's so beautiful and works well with the task we gave this week. You picked a palette I was not expecting; pulling it off exceptionally well. The chair with the wood, the lamp with the jar. Your attention to detail is prevalent and really highlights your talents. Overall, a very strong week for you!

What a cozy rustic room. I do believe you've sidetracked from the retro 70s aesthetic and moved into the modern hygge with this but I don't mind it at all. Lovely details scattered throughout the room, the fireplace is a favourite spot for me. I am not a hug fan of the roof details, but overall its unique and different and I respect it. Keep up the good work.

I'm very fascinated with the walls. The combination of stone/wood worked really well. It is very inviting and works in contrast to the other furniture you added to your build. The fireplace in the wall and the dials underneath are so harmonious to the building style you chose. I also love the shelves going up the wall. You had a vision and executed it quite well this week. Overall I think you covered the jist of what we asked this task. Perhaps more attention to the rustic attributes would have pushed this further. However, you did a really good job.

Deathbrand

I am not a fan of this room. I like the idea behind it but the execution is far from perfect. I do like the colorful blocks but you kept them in such thick form, they're overwhelming and not pleasing on the eyes. The brightness is gorgeous but it's also distracting and not working together at all. I can still see intentional clippings of furni that we already critiqued you on. Keep up with the great ideas just execute them better next time. Thanks.

I'm smitten with the majority of this build. I've never seen a room so bright. It's oddly satisfying. The colours are definitely galling but it's very on-brand to the memphis group movement. The commissary-like idea is very exasperated but refreshing with the revamp of colour/details you incorporated. I could have done without a lot of the bc blocks, combining them with other elements would have split the monotony and made it more palpable. Overall I believe you captured the vivacious tenacity this movement holds and turned out a design worthy of progressing in this competition.

Out of everyone in your group, you're the only one who actually captures the essence of the retro 70s feel in your rooms. Genius use of the cropping mechanism with the wall panels. The details are cheeky and appropriate, the mood is warm and the whole structure looks lived in and organic. I do think you are stronger in exterior buildings than interior, I wonder what you can do if you mix both of these in one single room

Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous. Split level, but still in the confines of the room size limit. Very innovative. The tone and overall appeal is matched perfectly to the midcentury modern movement we asked you to be inspired by this week. Your attention to detail and overall composition really had me floored. The walls are exceptional, panelling was very prevalent in the 70's and I love how you incorporated that. The modern flare being expressed through not only furniture but artwork and windows... clever. Overall this is a very strong rendition of our task. You strive for perfection week after week and we see that. Great work.
